Sun Protection Factor

SPF is the universal measure used in sun protection products. The higher the SPF, the better the protection from harmful UV rays.

When considering SPF levels, other factors also need to be considered:

  • The skin type of the user.
  • The amount applied and frequency of re-application.
  • The activities in which one engages (e.g. swimming leads to a loss of sunscreen from the skin).
  • The amount of sunscreen the skin has absorbed.

Currently, the Australian regulatory authorities allow a maximum rating of SPF30+ for sunscreens sold in Australia.

All Sun Zapper Products have an SPF rating of 30+.

Part of the sun's harmful radiation is ultraviolet. There are many sub-types of ultraviolet rays, two if which are UVA & UVB rays.

  • UVA rays can cause premature aging, wrinkling of the skin and sometimes, skin cancer
  • UVB rays are more dangerous than UVA and are the major cause of skin cancers, sunburning and cataracts

The earth's ozone is nature's way of protecting us from these harmful rays, however, the depletion of the ozone has made humans even more vulnerable to the harmful part of UVA & UVB rays.

However, UV rays in (as yet undetermined) small doses also aid the body in essential Vitamin D production which is needed for the gut absorption of calcium for strong bones. In the most part, it is important for sunscreen to be used in any prolonged outdoor exposure for the prevention of skin cancers.

All Sun Zapper products are 'broad-spectrum' which means that when properly applied, they effectively protect the skin against both UVA and UVB rays.

Sun protection products containing zinc oxide are a very safe and effective way of providing the skin with the barrier it needs from harmful UV rays. Zinc oxide can reflect, scatter and absorb UV light. It is also very water resistant. Scientifically, it is said to be "almost water insoluable". Sunzapper zinc sticks are particularly beneficial to those with fair or sensitive skin. It is suitable and safe to be used on sensitive areas such as lips, ears and nose. Care should always be taken around the eye area.

Sun Zapper Zinc Sticks and Sun Zapper Ultra Clear Zinc sunscreen contain zinc oxide in their formulation for maximum UV protection.

Sunscreens and zinc sticks should be used on all skin which cannot be covered with "high rated SPF" clothing. All care should be taken not to apply any product into the eyes or the mouth. Directional instructions and safety information, which appears on all Sun Zapper packaging, should be carefully read. Just click here for further safety information on all Sun Zapper products.

Sunscreen should be applied generously to clean, dry skin 20 minutes prior to sun exposure.

Reapply sunscreen ideally every two hours, or more frequently if washed, rubbed, or sweated off.

All Sun Zapper products are water resistant which makes them most suitable when swimming or playing sports. Also, Sun Zapper Dry Touch Sport sunscreen is particularly great to use while playing sports such as cricket, netball or football.

All Sun Zapper products have a 4 hour water resistance rating.
